The "Joyce. 1" series experiments with the capabilities of contemporary photography through the use of the alternative and natural photographic process of Chlorophyll printing on leaves, to explore how the natural world perceives and holds memories parallel to human memory. Each image in the series features the Australian White Ibis as an indexical symbol of personal childhood memories. Chlorophyll printing the images on a leaves visualises the presence of indexical memory triggers in the natural world and how nature can essentially store memories in a manner parallel to human memory, through indexical and sensory connections. Further the use of natural leaves creates an ephemerality within the work, speaking to the fluidity and ever-changing nature of memories and how memory can be held, changed or lost with the passing of time.
