I Embrace, is the exploration of the artist's body approach. Our bodies are not symmetrical and we are not born to be perfect, but we can do our best to perceive and unfold the best of ourselves, physically and mentally. In my early 30’s, with my first epidural, I found out that I had scoliosis which thankfully, it is very mild compared to others. Still, with time, the impact of it on my body’s posture and its cause of my lower back pain is indescribable sometimes.
Exploring the artist’s body has put me "up close and personal" with my scoliosis. My camera's viewfinder has been my reflective mirror where I examine and study each body movement and capture a unique detail form where the shape of the scoliosis "bump" is seen. Through this project, I had the chance to research scoliosis, and I can say that I educated myself about the effects that I currently have and that unfortunately, it has a progressive condition – and will get worse as I age. Through these aesthetic images and the personal level of my own body’s exploration that I have created so far, this is my body's home and I Embrace it.
