ABOUT THE WORK
The pandemic gave me – perhaps many of us – a chance to breathe and take stock of what it all means, what matters, what makes us happy. As work became a Covid induced hiatus, I needed to find a creative outlet that I could do on my own and preferably in my own home. Revisiting a childhood love of photography seemed like a good starting point.
I chose to challenge myself by doing everything without the aid of expensive photo equipment. That wasn’t a stretch, as aside from a decent camera, I had none. I also had no working knowledge of digital photographic tools such as Photoshop, so everything I would do would have to be built and then shot in camera.
Like most of us, I was pretty much confined to home so it meant curating ideas based around things that were readily available. “Monopoly 2050” came to me after playing the game with the family one evening. I decided to use the boardgame to resonate on the climate change issue.
I transformed the board using cut-out signs to represent catastrophic flooding and staged the sharks to represent even greater threat. I wanted to have the little green houses floating so that meant I’d have to shoot the whole board under wat
