This series shows views of the electrical infrastructure in the three counties of Central Florida- Marion, Lake and Sumter, with a combined population of 872,766. The area is served primarily by three electric utilities- Duke Energy, Ocala Electric and SECO Energy.
The photographs present images of locations and components of the electrical grid that distributes power throughout the three counties. This particular selection of pictures shows views of high voltage power lines and electrical substations. Each photograph is identified by its actual street location and by the compass direction of the view.
Stylized and formally composed, the images record the environment and physical structure of the mechanical components in the landscape. They are, literally, installations- their presence and aesthetics dictated by their function. Their similarities arise from their shared purpose and their differences come from their individual locations and service needs.
I have placed composition and visual alignment upon these unstructured scenes with the intent to superimpose "beauty" onto their industrial reality- a formalist visualization strategy that can be called "Documentary Abstraction".
