As a visual artist, I tend to turn nothing into 'something'. Through my photography, I transform insignificant objects in the studio until new shapes or associations arise. Using light, color, and perspective, I create an imagination of an extraterrestrial universe that could exist. This universe can be as big or as small as we make it. I want to invite the viewer to bring my imagination to life on their own.
In Spectrum, I examine the interplay between the recognizable and the unrecognizable. On the one hand, I bring you closer to the image and accentuate the material with light. On the other hand, I place my work in a dark environment. By doing so, I remove it from its context to create a distance. The stark contrasts and the play of light and shadow demonstrate the interaction between the abstract and the concrete. This interaction is dynamic. They are not fixed poles, but constantly evolving in relation to each other.
It’s like pressing on your eyeball. You find yourself in a new world only you have a clear view of, while in reality, you have no idea what you’re looking at. Is it a micro world that you can experience as macro world or vice versa?
