Ak Na´ is the name of this project. It means “The Universal Mother” in the ancient Lacandón language. The Lacandón culture is a Maya people living in the southeast region of Mexico.
Ak Na´ portrays shamanic, mystical and powerful women who seek to find their souls and discover the meaning of their existence. Many of them, with their profound knowledge of life and death, possess the ability to heal others by opening new doors to ways of perceiving and finding meaning in the body, the soul and the whole of existence.
The impulse behind this project is to create deeply compelling portraits that transmit the beauty and the energy of these captivating women for whom I hold great respect and admiration. I find their way of understanding human existence to be profound and of great significance.
