My intention is to photograph my subjects as naturally as possible to avoid the slick, the stylised and the crowd pleasing. I want to reflect their relationships with me no matter how long or how briefly I have known them. The use of film cameras slows the process, giving the impression of purpose to my subjects whereas a digital camera can allow me to catch a fleeting moment in an apparently inconsequential throwaway moment like a snapshot. Both methods allow my subjects to feel easy being photographed. I do my best to avoid the sentimental in my work.
