A Tourist Abroad

The attached images were captured on 35mm film and were intended as an informal travel/street documentary project. With the exception of 'The Catch', which was taken in my home town, the images were captured while on holidays in the UK and Ireland in October 2023. As a tourist abroad, I was interested in observing how other tourists behave and navigate spaces that are necessarily unfamiliar to us and are therefore somewhat fraught for small and sometimes funny cultural faux pas. I was interested in the conscious and unconscious ways that tourists ascribe and misplace meaning in objects and places that they are not necessarily familiar with, and the ways in which locals accomodate us in their spaces. The images were captured candidly with a view towards documenting small moments with as little artistic intervention as possible.
