During the social uprising in Chile, which began in October 2019, I sought to give a space of representation to feminist groups that have been of utmost importance in the proposals for the construction of an egalitarian society. For this I accompanied the activities of the "Capuchas Rojas" (Red Hoods) one of the collectives originated from the protests and that today may be composed of about 200 people.eight
The Capuchas Rojas meet at the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center in Santiago de Chile. There they carry out artistic activities such as music, performance, yoga, self-care, collage and tailoring. Each woman of this collective designs and darns her own hood, and wears it with pride and as the main symbol of the political and aesthetic proposal against the repression of the government of Sebastián Piñera.
The portrait, as a visual choice for this series, allows us to observe in detail the faces covered by the hoods of eight women members of the feminist collective.
