Why do we re-present the world to ourselves? What form do these representations take and how do they reflect our sense of self? These are the ideas explored in Practicing Representation in the Academy of Realist Art, a portrait series of artist, who work in the realist tradition, and their artwork captured in process.
These diptych portraits reflect upon the practice of painting and photography, and the ways each represent the world. It offers a testament to our continuing struggle with personal identity, significance and meaning, as we try to translate and make concrete our experiences and sensations into forms of representation and realization.
