"The Dark Side of Pink'' chronicles my journey through the body's transformations as I confront the inevitability of aging. Despite the usual onset of menopause at 51, I've experienced its symptoms much earlier. Fluctuations in hormones have impacted me physically, emotionally, cognitively, and mentally. Unfortunately, many physicians seem uncomfortable discussing menopause, leading to misdiagnosis and inadequate treatment for myself and other women.
Beyond these changes, my project explores the camaraderie among a group of women from the Red Hat Society (RHS), an organization centered on friendship. Originally for women 50 and above donning red hats and purple attire, the RHS now embraces women of all ages. Affectionately called "Pinky," despite not yet being fifty, I have the freedom to wear pink hats and lavender outfits during our gatherings.
This work delves into the complexities of my aging journey, seeking a renewed sense of self, and highlights the vital support found within a close community of women.
