When I go out to photograph in the streets of midtown New York, I make myself visible; whenever possible I make eye contact, and at times people need to move around me. Using the play between light and shadow, chiaroscuro, I observe life unfolding. Characters emerge like actors on a stage, or figures in a dream— the hyperreality amplifies the dramatic nature of everyday life. I notice uneasiness on people’s faces; they appear to be isolated despite moving together; absorbed in their own worlds, they don’t seem to care about my presence. From the accumulation of images, I see a collective portrait of the post pandemic era.
