The Gerewol festival occurs at the end of the rainy season, usually ~September-October each year, and sees smaller nomadic groups of Wodaabe/Mbororo gather. The Gerewol is a time of celebration and socialisation.
It is also a time for the men to be on display. They will dress up, sing, and dance long in to the night, in the hopes of attracting the attention of marriageable women.
While the focal point of the Gerewol is the singing and dancing by the men, this portfolio instead looks at the daily life and aspects leading up to the main event.
