Swan

We all want to believe that love can be eternal. Proponents of a life together point out that, yes, fidelity does exist in the animal kingdom, and that some species even bond until death. Regularly cited as the mythical symbol of this bond stronger than all else, the swan carries this enduring romantic ideal on its feathered shoulders. However, in the animal kingdom, monogamy is not synonymous with sexual fidelity. In other words, two individuals can form a couple, be partners in the care of their young, but engage in behind-the-scenes copulations with other individuals.
