Positions of Power: Side A is an exploration into my Haitian heritage through a contemporary reimagining of Neg Mawon, a symbol of resistance and freedom, This series, informed by her deep engagement with her Haitian mother and their Haitian history, employs composition, styling, and storytelling to bring these figures to life in a visually compelling and emotionally resonant manner that challenges the viewer's beliefs on strength and resilience.
The artist aims to go beyond historical retelling and introduce a narrative that merges past and present, offering a fresh perspective on the importance of these historical figures in contemporary discussions about identity, freedom, and representation, a topic that is especially relevant in our current social and political climate.
