“Centred" is a compelling project that delves into the exploration of personal identity, drawing its inspiration from the profound nexus of childhood experiences and human development. The project's name itself is a testament to its core focus - the human identity, which is the center of our existence.
Born from a nostalgic phone conversation reminiscing childhood memories with my mum, "Centered" emphasizes on the pivotal role that these early experiences play in shaping our identities. It focuses on the potent influence of our past and on the value of comprehending these experiences to better understand ourselves. This understanding is crucial in identifying areas for personal healing, enabling us to fully embrace who we are and who we've been created to be.
The project's visuals are inspired by a mix of: my surroundings, during my formative years through friends and family, some childhood memories, such as the image "When we pray", which captures a core memory of my mother gathering the family to pray before meals, emphasising the importance of faith and family.
Additional inspiration comes from other artists whom also explore the concept of family and tradition.
Despite not having any sisters, I've always been fascinated by the deeply profound bonds of sisterhood. Whether through family or friendships, these bonds shape women and ultimately those around them.
"Centred" is more than just a project; it's a heartfelt homage to childhood memories. Through a feminine perspective, it emphasises on the importance of exploring the profound bonds of sisterhood and the generational influence of family and tradition on our self-growth and awareness.
This project resonates across generations, serving as a powerful reminder for everyone to acknowledge the influence of their early experiences. This understanding aids in self-discovery and identity formation as we journey towards leading a purposeful life.
