DRIFTWOOD SANCTUARY

While exploring the beach on an early morning walk, a distant object caught my eye. Curiosity drew me closer to investigate what this intriguing form, built entirely from weathered driftwood, could be. This photograph is presented in black and white to direct the viewer's attention to the interplay of lines. Dominant diagonal lines, formed by the driftwood pieces, create the "sanctuary" structure. The line of the horizon, where sand meets ocean and sky, brings stability and balance to the composition. The ever-changing wind lines highlight the impermanence of the environment, contrasting with the seemingly more permanent structure. However, both the structure and the wind lines are impermanent compared to the vastness of the ocean and sky. Interestingly, the repetition of the wind lines creates a natural rhythm that echoes the repetition of the driftwood pieces, subtly unifying the natural and man-made elements. The unknown origin of the driftwood adds another layer of intrigue, inviting the viewer to imagine its stories. "Sanctuary" itself evokes peace, tranquility, and spirituality, a space to reconnect with creativity and inspiration.
