The Dakar fish market in Soumbediounea is a cove on which hundreds of men's brightly painted pirogues, or canoes, are pulled from the water each evening, and the day's haul of seafood put out to sale. As soon as the fishermen dock, a horde of fishmongers storm the beach to inspect the catch, which can include anything from barracuda to shrimp. Colour, odours a strong heat concur to create a lively and pulsing environment in which the actors are a crowd of fisherman, vendors, fish shoppers and beautifully dressed women.
