Queer Rio

The portraits in this series are made up of people from across the Queer and Trans spectrum, all living in Rio De Janeiro Brazil. The images were made in 2022 during the right wing Bolsanaro administration. The lives of young queer people in Rio reminded me of my own upbringing in Northern Ireland in the 80s and 90s where, similarly to Brazil, conservative politicians and religious leaders worked together to demonise queer people. I wanted to show the agency and fearlessness of young queer people in Rio.
