These 9 images come from a large body of work shot over the last 3 years consisting of 350 images about my personal exploration of the River Thames. Given the scale of the river, they can only be at best , an impression.
The title “Psychodrifter - Mapping the Thames” is a gentle nod to the term “Psychogeography” and my relationship to exploring the banks of the River Thames walking the length of the Thames Path from its source in Kemble to its end at the Thames Barrier on the outskirts of London, 298 km away.
I am currently embarked upon exploring the river from the Thames Barrier to the Estuary where the river eventually meets with the North Sea, which will mark the completion of the project. It is not intended that the project be sequenced chronologically but is likely to still flow from source to sea.
These photographs are responses to the the theme of settlement, and humanity’s imprint on the land, and referencing the idea of psychogeography to underpin the project feels very relevant.
