Flat Caps and Nuclear Explosions

In 1969, sixteen years after President D. Eisenhower stood before the United Nations and announced a bold new initiative called "Atoms for Peace", British scientists proposed the peaceful use of nuclear explosions in the United Kingdom. Three proposed sites for such an event would be in the North York Moors National Park. Being a patriotic Yorkshireman, I decided to investigate it further. Driven by my curiosity, I embarked on a journey to uncover the truth. My first stop was the UK National Archives, followed by the International Atomic Energy Agency Archives. There, I stumbled upon documents related to the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Explosions, confirming the proposal's existence. Using the exact three locations and overlaying them with meticulously calculated formulas, elements from archived US Photographic stock, models, and a nuclear bunker, I created a visual representation of what these events might have looked like. I aimed to ignite curiosity and raise awareness about this intriguing historical proposal. These Kodak Aerochrome Infrared negatives might have been found in one of the British scientists' desk drawers. The delivery of the project is satire.
