For thirty years we have driven from our home in Ohio to Santa Fe, NM: my husband at the wheel, and I wielding a camera. This project contains a small sample of the sights that come to mind when we think "Santa Fe" though certainly surrounds of the city are also included. The landscapes here depict not only mountains and land formations, but trees, sky, clouds, sun, and fog as well -- all demonstrating the enchantment for which New Mexico is known.
As a musician and photographer, I am intrigued by the comparison of music and photography. A musical performance is a series of moments, whereas a photograph captures just one. Producing a photograph inscribes that moment. Ultimately, both performance and image can linger in an observer's mind, and in that way they become timeless.
Inspired by the music of John Cage who espoused the acceptance of unexpected occurrences in performance, I am a fan of chance and seek the unexpected when taking photographs. A great deal can be anticipated in the process of making a photo but one cannot control them all. Those chance offerings add to the sublimity of the moment.
