Psych Light is a project that involves intentional camera movement, long-exposure photography, and creating a canvas from the urban environment similar to street photography. I approach these photographs using my camera as a brush, local light sources as paint, and camera movement (or sometimes, the movement of the lights) as brushstrokes. The result is a photograph that captures an emotional feeling based on color and shape alone.
Each time I take a photo with these parameters, I never know what the final output will be. The image itself has too many moving parts to predict. I treat the creative process as a reflection on the lack of control we have in life. I hope for the viewer to get out of these images that both order and chaos as equally deserving of their respect. Every image or experience can't be created without both. It is about finding beauty in the unknown and appreciating the little amount of control, known as influence, that we do have in creating our life experience.
Beyond this, I hope these images can be enjoyed as a form of color therapy by the viewer. Stare long enough and you'll see what I mean!
