This series about–no, a celebration of–urbanites and their experiences living, loving, playing and working in the cities they call home.
Born and raised in Vicksburg, Mississippi–not the smallest town but neither a Metropolis. Population density seemed fairly relaxed. Except in the poorest of neighborhoods, families enjoyed modest homes on spacious lots. Relocating to Washington State, with its similar population density, wasn't jarring.
However, my first visit to New York City was a paradigm shift. So many people in such a small space opened my eyes to a very different way of living. Very close. Very publicly. Cooperatively. Sometimes, communally. And there was so much cultural, racial and socioeconomic diversity (and, yes, inequalities as well)! I've been smitten with the big city experience ever since.
Marrying my love of the urban experience with my love of portraiture has lead to my own particularly people-centric form of street photography. I hope something among the images engages you.
