Photo 101 reflects the cultural milieu of the 1980s, highlighting the educational landscape for budding photographers at that time. The photographer was given the freedom to sketch, make studies, explore with free thought with knowledge of process.
Under the tutelage of American Photographer, William Gedney, Karen explored the nude figure, apprehending the human body stepping into an intimate world. Figure drawing with a camera, she explored human forms defined by light and shadow. These photographs speak to the deep rooted primal desires of humanity to make honest and authentic connections through movement. These investigations allowed young eyes to explore freely, make sketches, and develop their senses, honing their abilities to use the camera to define the subject in a multitude of ways through the lens.
