Sunbathing Under Motorway Lights

The world is becoming increasingly unimaginable. A world of global disasters, cybercapitalism and the threat of extinction, dragging us into a confrontation with the abyss. Using personal photographs and archive images, the work decontectulalizes these forms with recomposition, print manipulation and rephotography to engage the viewer in a reality where the image is dissolved and new meanings are created, to explore the human in relation to trajectories of apocalypse. Accelerated capitalism fragments everything, our values, belief systems, subjectivity and meaning, into a chaos of signs, contradictory signification and messages. The real without origin or reality. Central to this process is a positive feedback loop, with commercialization and technology mutually exciting each other. As the circuit intensifies, it exhibits greater autonomy. What emerges is a dark synthesis; capitalism and AI are the same thing. Have we unleashed our own destruction? The abyss is a metaphor for the limits of knowledge and understanding, the edge of our cognitive and perceptual abilities, where reason and logic falter and we are left to grapple with the mysteries that lie beyond.
