Will there come a moment in this physical body when we realize how many masks we wear and why we actually do this? In my work, using C. G. Jung’s theories, I search for the masks of my own personality. I want to understand what lies behind my masks, what is beneath the surface. My research aims to determine whether the face of the Selbst – the innermost deep self – can be created through the medium of photography. I am curious about the invisible and I wish to make it visible. Throughout my life, my family members have been my role models, playing a key role in the formation of my roles. The glass masks of my own face, onto which the faces of my mother, father, brother, and myself were projected, were created using the collodion wet plate process. They are milestones in the long process of self-discovery. I consider the photogram to be the final essence of my search. It embodies every physical and emotional layer/work, presenting the most naked, purest, and most invisible face of me I have ever seen. The face of my Selbst. Without photography, this would have remained invisible.
