Traces of Impermanence embodies the visual imprints of change, growth, and transience. Through my photographic practice, I explore nature’s impermanence and the resilience and vulnerability of my aging body. This shared experience of impermanence invites reflection on the nature of life, time, and interconnectedness.
At its core, Traces of Impermanence is a meditation on transformation—a study of the cycles that govern existence, both in nature and the human experience. Through close, detailed imagery, I capture moments that reflect the quiet power of growth, decay, and renewal. These images are not mere records of visual change but carry deeper meanings, resonating with the universal rhythms of life and death.
This work emerged from a deeply personal space. Witnessing my mother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease became a turning point in my life and artistic practice. Her decline illuminated my relationship with aging and vanity, forcing me to confront the resistance to impermanence I had once judged in her. In doing so, I began to see the beauty of letting go—of embracing change as an inevitable and profound aspect of life.
The human body, much like nature, bears the marks of time. Turning the lens on myself, I find my aging body becoming a landscape that speaks to our shared mortality. Each mark, wrinkle, and shift of skin reflects both the fragility and strength that define human existence, reminding us of the beauty inherent in change.
