Hainan, a well-known holiday destination in China. This was my first time coming here.
On this beautiful coast, the typhoon had just passed. I walked barefoot along the shore with my daughter.
We passed by a nearly collapsed pavilion, where a group of children played nearby.
Before long, the waves washed up a large foam ball, its surface bumpy and uneven, like a human brain.
The children were thrilled, kicking it around as if it were a soccer ball.
My daughter said to me, "Dad, did you know that scientists have found microplastics in the human body?
Plastic takes 100 years to decompose."
I smiled and said, "Well, that’s not so bad. This way, it means we can be immortal."
"What else can be immortal?" she asked.
"Perhaps decay itself," I replied, though I wasn’t sure if she would understand the answer at her age.
She stared at the sea in silence for a long moment. "Alright, so what’s for dinner?"
Just then, a big wave suddenly splashed seawater onto my feet. I shivered from the cold and sighed,
"How about seafood?"
