This project I started last year with the intent of being an on-going series.
A few days before heading out on a 3 day backpacking trip on a section of the AT, I had the idea of wanting to make portraits of some of the thru hikers we run into.
I decided to shoot this on film with my Mamiya RZ67 on Iford Delta 100 pushed 2 stops. Shooting these on the RZ sounded like a great idea, until half way on the trail of carrying all the extra weight, everybody thought I was crazy.
Our second night we stayed at the Apple Barn, a popular place for thru hikers to stay and sleep. We set up our camp and then after dinner went to introduce ourselves to some of the thru hikers. We got to hear their trail names, stories of trail magic and even witnessed trail magic while taking their portraits.
They were all great and I hope to get back to that same spot this year to make more portraits. Enjoy these for now!
