"Escombros" is a series of photographs that explores the impacts of globalization, deterritorialization, and human rights violations. The work portrays family farmers who were dispossessed in the Açu region of Rio de Janeiro state, under the rubble of their homes, ten years after their forced removal. The work explores these people's emotional and historical relationship with the land, highlighting the human consequences of the advancement of political and economic interests surrounding oil and iron ore exploration in Brazil. Drawing on the thinking of Brazilian geographer Milton Santos, the series proposes a reflection on the possibility of a new globalization, based on solidarity and citizenship.
