As an extension of the "Escombros" series, the "Água Preta" series explores the resistance of family farmers to the changes imposed on the Açu region. It thus proposes a reflection on the cultural, material, and social importance of certain territories in the face of political and economic interests surrounding oil and iron ore exploration in Brazil. . This work addresses land and territory as an identity, as defined by geographer Milton Santos: "Territory is the ground plus the population—that is, an identity, the fact and feeling of belonging to what belongs to us. Territory is the basis of work, residence, material and spiritual exchanges, and life, which it influences. When we speak of territory, we must therefore immediately understand that we are talking about used territory, utilized by a given population. One creates the other.
