As a fashion photographer, I am interested in capturing 3 things: the models, their outfits, and the designer’s creativity. These 3 elements are integral to the success of the fashion industry. However, I have always felt that something was missing from the spotlight. It is something that goes unnoticed and unappreciated by the masses; but without it, the entire fashion industry would fall apart.
Meet the Mannequins. They cannot feel, hear, speak, taste, nor touch; but what they lack in these 5 senses, they make up for with their sense of fashion.
Much like a model, a mannequin’s perfect physique and intriguing pose can bring an outfit to life.
Though inanimate, I have always felt that mannequins appear to be proud of what they wear; after all, they are always the first to wear the designer’s most recent and extravagant designs.
The importance of the mannequin goes beyond aesthetics. Whether you realize it or not, your perception of an outfit is elevated when it is displayed on a mannequin.
A store may have thousands of folded or hung clothes on display; however, only a select few pieces have the privilege of being showcased on mannequins.
The next time you find yourself looking at a mannequin, ask your self this: am I admiring the outfit or the mannequin? Your answer might surprise you!
