Vent a dome, invent a habitat
for tubeworm, sea-stout, eelpout
waltzing, 700 degrees in love.
They must know their origin
is hydrothermal swirling,
that fate is motion-of-life
agitating to occupy the world.
poem for "Sea Flower" by Diane Mehta, 2024
Through small seaweed and animal life, I document the vitality of the ocean. I collect at the ocean shore, make negatives, print by brushing palladium on tactile Japanese gampi paper and expose with the sun. All my work is hand done. I work in an analog darkroom.
Through the small and vital algae and small organisms of the ocean that are the primary subjects in my prints, I want people to see the vastness of ocean life. I am a believer in the "Symbioscene" which I hope will be a time when humans develop practices to cohabitate and live in reciprocity with all non-human life. I collage hands and eyes within some of these works to indicate our human presence. The health of the ocean is vital for our own and the planet's health.
