Oculus of the Machine

From the series "Industrial". By isolating and inverting the bucket wheel of a coal excavator, the image shifts an apparatus of extraction towards something quasi-sacral: an oculus, a dome, an Art Deco ornament. Industrial force and ceremonial form briefly coincide, allowing the machine to appear less as infrastructure than as a charged architectural presence.
