A grim economic miracle, the policies and business of the ruling party challenged by the opposition with demonstrations every Friday. Today's Albania is a jumble of contradictions. The country emerged from communist isolation until the 1990s and is now immersed in a new era of economic boom, seeing an increase in tourists from around the world attracted by the favorable exchange rate, but also a construction boom that has transformed cities into continuous flows of concrete.
