Jamnesia is a long-form photographic project documenting the culture and community of roller derby through the wet plate collodion process. Created over multiple years and across dozens of leagues, tournaments, and cities, the project combines one of photography's oldest surviving techniques with a contemporary sport built on strength, resilience, and self-determination.
Working from within the community as both a skater and photographer, Nitrate Fox traveled the West Coast of the United States creating handmade tintypes and ambrotypes of athletes, officials, volunteers, and fans. The resulting body of work examines identity, labor and belonging. Jamnesia explores the broader culture of roller derby: its rituals, chosen families, injuries, fundraising efforts, and celebrations.
