The Concrete Jungles
The Concrete Jungles is an ongoing documentary project detailing the recent history of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, a remote territory under United States jurisdiction. The project combines contemporary photographs with archival materials including newspapers, ephemera, and historical documents to explore how power, identity, and economic dependency have shaped everyday life in these remote islands. Through portraits, interiors, landscapes, abandoned spaces, and symbolic imagery, The Concrete Jungles investigates the intersection of past and present, revealing a place that is politically American yet geographically and culturally distant from the mainland. The work seeks to understand how global forces are experienced within one of the United States' most isolated communities.
