Mr. Tipantiza´s garden

ENGLISH Gardening is an art and a science with a long and rich history of over 3500 years, and in many geographic regions and cultures (Europe, Middle East, Japan, China) was developed with features and aesthetics that continue in force today. However, despite being one of the regions with greater exuberance and variety of plants and flowers in the world, there is a not a gardening tradition in South America. Mr. Tipantiza is a worker -with ancient aboriginal roots- and for 20 years he has being gardening the park that surrounds a family house in Tumbaco, a small town on the outskirts of Quito, Ecuador. Without any formal education and the sole remedy of his naive imagination, white stones -and the addition of the whimsical and lush tropical climate- Tipantiza cares and beautifies his yard working from monday to friday, despite the significant motor disability that affects him since he was a child. ESPAÑOL La jardinería es un arte y una ciencia con una extensa y rica historia de más de 3500 años, y en muchas regiones geográficas y culturas (Europa, Medio Oriente, Japón, China) fue desarrollándose con particularidades y estéticas que hoy continuan vigentes. Sin embargo, a pesar de ser una de las regiones con mayor exuberancia y variedad de plantas y flores del mundo, no existe una tradición propia en Sudamérica. El señor Tipantiza es un sencillo jardinero que desde hace 20 años se ocupa del parque que circunda una casa ubicada en Tumbaco, una pequeña localidad en las afueras de Quito, Ecuador. Sin ningún tipo de educación formal y con el único recurso de su inocente imaginación, piedras blancas -además del exuberante y caprichoso clima tropical- Tipantiza cuida, nutre y embellece su jardín trabajando incansablemente de lunes a viernes, a pesar de la importante discapacidad motriz que lo afecta desde niño.
