This is a series I did using my some of my favourite photographic ingredients
which is a square, head and shoulders expressions and simple butterfly lighting and a bit of underwater.
I feel that sometimes portraits try to represent the entirety of a person but there are so many different sides and emotions that each of us has and I think it takes multiple photos to capture that.
I took photos in Kenya years ago that one of the helpers on my parents home wanted me to take of her and her friends. They were so excited and smiling and energetic but then when I snapped the photos they were very serious in them. It did not reflect their mood at all at the time. I found this very interesting and now look at all portraits very differently.
