Role-Play touch upon decorative elements and visual pleasure in a way. Re-Figure appears more poetic, dark, interior and lonely. The new work may also be read in different ways but superficially – everything belongs. I become the other. I consume myself in the patterns of fabrics.
Using myself as both photographer and subject, I have been able to achieve a much more powerful and symbolic image. Self-portraiture or using the self in one’s photographs has become a well-established and recognized form of art, but my images function beyond those strategies.
My images are not self-portraits, nor are they dramatic scenes in which I am the protagonist. Rather, I am embodying my own identify and multicultural position, my departure and arrival, to symbolize the profoundly personal and unique experiences of relocation.
