artist statement Behind silence, subtle tensions arise and chaos pushes through the cracks. In photographing, I am observing and bearing witness to life; my own and others. I document and capture this self-exploration, drawing inspiration and insight from the process. I am intrigued by the indulgence of our imaginations as well as physical surroundings, and the relationships that exist in both worlds. The images provide a glimpse of the elevated awareness I have always felt and a quirky seductiveness emanating from an innate connection with the natural world. My images represent fleeting moments of calmness and quiet intensity. Although my work represents a personal and intimate experience of an individual artist, the emotions brought forth here are very much universal. By being vulnerable to imagination and memory, we are sharing the experience. steffanie halley
