At least on this side of the Atlantic, in Europe and especially in Italy. “Uno, nessuno e centomila”: just like one of Pirandello’s characters, with his eccentric personality the billionaire Republican candidate running for president in the 2016 US elections, manages to break free from the observers and the media who verbally proclaim themselves unscrupulous but are politically correct in their written expression. Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank made fun of Trump : “Donald Trump will not be the nominee or I will eat this column”. Milbank has live up to his promise, he has eaten his column! Is he a nationalist conservative or a modern interpreter of globalized contradictions? A caring guardian of identity values of freedom and tolerance or a dangerous defender of isolationism? Is this a case of despicable selfishness and thirst for fame and power or is he a pragmatic administrator of the common good? In an almost surreal situation each observer can develop his own personal point of view. The images that we offer, combined with Trump’s statements, before and during his election campaign, can provide the observer with a possible key to interpretation. Perhaps the first that the visual suggestion offers but definitely not the only one.
