After reading an essay in an old out-of-print book, Minor White: A Living Remembrance, I was struck by the small thumbnail photo of the young author that accompanied the essay. I set out to find Walter Chappell in 1995, long before the powerful research tools of the Internet were available. After months of searching, I found him in New Mexico. We enjoyed a friendship for many years, and his spirit still lives on in my soul. These images were taken at his home in El Rito, New Mexico. Prints are made from scanned negatives.
