At the simplest level, these photographs are portraits of sculptors. They are also the creative departures, collaborations, and discoveries that produced my book, "Facing Sculpture: A Portfolio of Portraits, Sculpture and Related Ideas." Rather than overlay one visual treatment upon all of my subjects, I chose a non-formulaic approach. This allowed the identity of each individual, and the unique experience of each session, to dictate the portrait’s final form. The resultant photographs are a synthesis of the sculptor’s personae, the sculptors' source inspiration, and of his or her interaction with the photographer.
