I have been taking photos of Estonian blacksmiths for about 4years.
At first I accidentally met a few blacksmiths introduced to me by a friend. I felt their workshop was simply beautiful and their intriguing style and their way of life seemed very precious to me. That is the reason why I started to take photos of Estonian blacksmiths.
The photographs I take are of history, scent, their hummer sound and other actions that happen in the workshop. I believe that in a society, education is a crucial factor where culture is inherited to the next generation. So I have visited some schools and workshops and took photos of how they teach and how they learn.
This work is about passing on a culture to the new generation.
We are losing a lot of our tradition and culture in craftsmanship. I would like to express how some cultures could be sustained in a society through my work. These are photos of the scenes and the people, depicting how such a social system relates to their society.
