The Last Supper

In my present work I begin to explore the connection between photography and symbolism. It was a long debate between theorist that a single image has a narrative quality or only a serial can bear with this aspect. One of the famous critics found that every photograph is a kind of symbol because its semiotics boundaries can extend by its connotations. For example a photo from my family not only can have an indexical reference to my relatives but can be understood and interpreted as a symbol of the family. If a picture can be read as symbols it automatically entails narrative because the picture do not refer to a subject anymore but a more wild meaning. For instance if we illustrate the symbol of the freedom everybody will associate with different event and situation by own life and history. Symbol always allude to something real, therefore when we analyse a picture as a symbol we replace the fantastic attribute of the image with reality. It is not fantasy anymore but a kind of depiction of the inner or social reality in absurd way. I choose to play with the fish and the eggs as symbols because they have a common interpretation and understanding. The fish is symbolise the world and the eggs are symbolise the fertility ( testicle embryo, birth). For instance the bitten eggs is the symbol of the self-destruction because without embryo no future generation, but what kind of event will come into mind of the viewer will depend on their personal experiences and understanding ( abortion, cancer, accident, disaster etc.:) These images just the beginning of my further researcher work. I also would like to analyse the differences between Freudian and Jungian symbolism and compare my new way of understanding these kind of signs.
