Sorrow, 2016

The grief I can feel over all the injustices in this world in tandem with distressful childhood memories inspired me to show an adolescent girl's expression after having just cried. Whereas in the series Nocturnal I focus on emotions just before the realization of sadness, with Sorrow I wish to show the very moment just after. The flaking of the paint on the wall of this dilapidated passageway evokes feelings of beauty and decay and forms a counterpoint to the inward-looking eyes of the serenely dressed girl.
