Morning Practice (朝稽古)

Over a period of nine months in 2014-2015 I documented the brutal training at a top university amateur Sumo club in Tokyo, Japan. Although these young men all aspire to joining the Pro ranks, few ever do. Instead for four years, several mornings a week they sacrifice everything to a traditional way of life at odds with the more hedonistic aspects of the modern world.
