A Photographic Essay, exploring masculinity, friendship and boundaries.
Michalis Egoumenides & Sergiou Eftichios
Traditional male friendships, have clear boundaries, both physical and to a lesser extent emotional. Although, I do think these boundaries are now somewhat eroded. What is it to be a man? What are the acceptable levels of platonic intimacy and emotionally driven physicality, one male can show another, before societies boundaries and conditioning begin to play a part?
As males, we all have a “terms of behaviour” that govern physical and emotional intimacy, subconsciously and overtly adhered to.
Gay or straight I truly feel is inconsequential, these are just labels, societies way of enforcing a “placism.” If we label it, we can control it. We are men, people, XY chromosomes trying to connect, trying to find love and be loved. I feel how we label ourselves should be immaterial. But these boundaries, limits and labels do exist and it is where one boundary meets another that I find fascinating. How far is too far, if too far even exists? I like to look at the images of “Black Sand,” as the beginning of what I hope will be a long and interesting exploration of these boundaries.
